Getting excited about Edinburgh Yarn Festival
For those of you that have read my last blog post you my remember that I said that I was heading off to Scotlands Trade Fair at the end of January.
After a lot of hard work and stress I got there and it went fantastically well.
Scrunchy Clouds
Hello again and many apologies for the long gap between blog posts.
Things have been rather busy at Weft Blown HQ with getting ready for Christmas fairs, being ill, and getting inspired by weather.
How to Weave with Lithuanian Linen from Midwinter Yarns
During the summer the lovely Estelle at Midwinter Yarns got in touch with me to ask if I could weave a sample for them for their stand at shows using their Lithuanian Linen. This was very good timing as I had that day just been drooling over their linen Sweet Peas packs that they had […]
Waves in the Clouds Wraps
Over the past couple of months I’ve not just been working on the new Sunsets and Showers collection but I’ve also been working on a totally brand new thing – Handwoven Wrap I first worked on a prototype using a mix of Jamiesons of Shetland 4ply and Aran yarn and I managed to get this […]
Off to Edinburgh Yarn Festival
The car is packed, looms are warped, yarn is in, and I’m pretty much ready to head off to Edinburgh to set up for the Edinburgh Yarn Festival. I’m also taking with me all my handwoven things to sell and to make life asker for me this section of my website will be out of […]
Settling In
When I moved into the studio in December I pretty much threw everything in as I had to get my head down to weave all the things for college. So, it’s not really been working at it’s full potential as a work space and needed a shift around. It took a couple of days, and […]
Breezing along
I’ve pretty much been attached to my loom for the past couple of weeks. Thankfully, this does mean that my college work has been coming along well and I’m still on track time wise for getting things done. Those that know me know that this is a very rare thing for me as I’m usually […]
Commonwealth Weaving
Last year I was asked by North Ayshire Council if I would be interested in working with schools to create a handwoven project based on sports activities that could be link to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. As I thought this would be a great opportunity, and good fun, I said “yes”. For the past […]
Catching Up
My final weekend at Bradford College before my degree show went fine and I’m quite excited weaving my final collection. If the ideas work out it should hopefully look rather cool. The stash also got enhanced with a trip to and a visit from Jim the yarn man at college. Really happy I took the […]
Sky project
It’s coming up to the end of February so it must be time for me to head back down to Bradford for college. I’ve been having fun with my final project, which is based on the idea of the sky above you changing on a daily basis. The colours are of an ecru background with […]
Head in the clouds
It could easily be said that my head has always been in the clouds. From my constant daydreaming whilst growing up, to then actually being able to study and work on atmospheric stuff when I got older. Now my head is returning to the clouds for my final project at college. My inspiration is from […]
Back to work
I have never wanted to get back to work so much after the Christmas holidays. Having my own studio space instead of working from home has made a huge difference to how I’m working. My part-time shop assistant, Gonzo the Springer Spaniel in the picture above, and I are having nice walk down to work […]
It's happening!
It’s been a very busy couple of weeks, but finally everything is coming together. My college work is starting to literally take shape. I’m designing a woven three-dimensional rock pool, complete with seaweed and shells. Getting the actual shape is proving to be quite a technical challenge, involving me having to tension the cloth by […]
Rush Hour
It’s been very busy here at Knit 1 Girl 1 over the past couple of months, and it’s felt like I’ve been in a perpetual rush hour. I’ve been teaching a couple of classes in weaving again at Once A Sheep. The first was another rigid heddle sample-it weaving day, which resulted in everyone being […]
Edinburgh Yarn Festival
I’ve been to a few yarn festivals now over the years, but Edinburgh Yarn Festival that was on this weekend was one of the maddest and fun ones I’ve been to. My friend Karen, who runs Once A Sheep yarn shop, decided to take a stall, after a bit of persuasion. She decided to take […]
Ashford Sample-It Loom
As always things have been rather busy. Much of January was spent working on my second project for college. That project is now done and dusted and I’m now working on my next project. In-between college work I also managed to grab a new Ashford Sample-It loom. This loom is very cute and cuddly and […]
Weaving again:)
Hello and welcome to my blog. It’s been a while (well over a year) since I last blogged. Life kept on getting in the way and then lots of procrastination at the same time too. However, I am now back in the mind-set to blog about my random yarn-related fun. I’ll start off with the […]
