Schacht Cricket Rigid Heddle Loom - 10"/25cm and 15"/38cm

The Cricket is an ideal loom for someone wanting to begin weaving as well as being a solid performer for experienced weaving who want a small portable loom.

This is a sturdy wee loom, well made and thoughtfully designed with the weaver in mind - all as you would expect from Schacht. We use this loom for our introductory Learn to Weave class but also for the experienced weaver this is a great little loom for rigid heddle projects. The Cricket is supplied as an easy-to-assemble kit and is available in a 10″/25cm or 15″/38cm weaving widths.

How to assemble a Cricket Loom:

The Cricket costs a bit more than other rigid heddles looms of a similar size. What do I get for my money?

A great thing about the Cricket is the extra brace beams above the front and back beam. The warp goes up and over these brace beams, meaning the Cricket keeps a large shed as cloth is wound onto the front beam and giving a larger capacity in terms of amount of cloth that can be woven.

It is made of high-quality apple ply and hard maple and is left unlacquered for a pleasant, natural look and feel. At the same time this is a sturdy and robust loom that will give many, many years of service.

The ratchet handles on the Cricket are easy to adjust and are really hard-wearing.

Included with your loom are a threading hook, warping peg, table clamps, two shuttles, and two balls of yarn. Each Cricket comes with an 8-dent reed as standard.

What additional accessories are available?

Additional reeds are available for the Cricket at 5-, 10- and 12-dent and a variable dent reed is also available for both the 10" and 15" widths. An optional floor stand and bag is also available.

10″/25cm Weaving Width

At only 13″/33cm x 18″/46cm x 6″/15cm and just under 1.8kg, it’s easy to take along. The small weaving width gives plenty of room to make a variety of projects without sacrificing portability. It’s an ideal size for a new weaver of any age. Additional 10″ cricket slim shuttles and 10″ cricket pick-up sticks are available.

15″/38cm Weaving Width

Although 14cm wider than the 10″ Cricket, the 15″ Cricket is still compact enough to take with you easily. The 15″ weaving width offers more flexibility in your choice of weaving projects. Uses the same reeds as the 15″ Flip folding rigid heddle loom. Additional 15″ cricket slim shuttles and 15″ cricket pick-up sticks are available.
